Nashville Overview

Nashville is the capital of Tennessee and the unofficial capital of American Country music. Nashville is home to a large number of colleges and universities, as well as a center for the music industry – earning its nickname of the “Music City”. Nashville offers a wide range of entertainment, dining, cultural and architectural tourist attractions as well as a healthy selection of nightlife and music. The Nashville metropolitan population is nearly 1.6 million people. The Tennessee Performing Arts Center is a major venue for events in Nashville, and is home to the Tennessee Repertory Theatre, the Nashville Opera, the Music City Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Nashville Ballet. There are several major annual events held in Nashville such as the Nashville Film Festival, the Country Music Marathon, the CMA Music Festival, the African Street Festival, and the Country Music Association Awards to name a few. The economy of Nashville is comprised of music recording and production and country music by all of the “Big Four” record labels: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI. Other major Nashville industries include finance, insurance, and publishing.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is a major tourist attraction as well as the Opry Mills, and the Gaylord Opryland & Convention Center as well – all located in what is known as Music Valley in Nashville.
