If you are an adventurer, San Diego’s coastal setting
is sure to set your blood to running, with so many things to see and do. You can take a hike along the sandstone cliffs of Torrey Pines State Reserve or walk through the frothy surf and watch the Navy SEALS train at Coronado Beach. If you decide that you want to get away from some of the area’s natural wonders, there are still plenty of things to do. Why not spend the day at Balboa Park, the city’s most distinctive cultural landmark? Or why not soak up some sun while you’re exploring some of the many museums, theaters, and gardens that call the city home. And even if you decide to enjoy natural history, make sure you leave some time for the rich naval history with some of the highest regarded museums in the nation?
Balboa Park. For many years, Balboa Park has been considered one of the premier cultural attractions of San Diego. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean from Mission Bay from northwestern San Diego, Mission Beach, and one of the most popular gathering places anywhere. Whether you use it to just spend an afternoon or attend one of the many cultural events, you are sure to find Balboa Park unlike practically anywhere.
Coronado Beach. There are probably few places that are as good for relaxing and just taking it easy for fun than Coronado Beach. If you visit, you will be sharing the scene with the Navy, but that’s part of the fun too.
Gaslamp Quarter. How about the opportunity to tour downtown San Diego as it appeared more than 150 years ago. The Gaslamp District is the area’s prime location for entertainment where guests can immerse themselves in the rich architecture of yesteryear and the history that made it great. The Gaslamp district is tucked into 16 ½ blocks of the downtown area and serves as a playground for those who enjoy the downtown area. Wherever you decide to go in the Gaslamp district, you will find yourself near the convention center, Petco Park, Horton Plaza, and much more. And getting there, no matter how you do it, is a breeze.
Torrey Pines State Reserve. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is 2,000 acres of stunning coastal state park located near the community of La Jolla, in San Diego, California, off North Torrey Pines Road. Torrey Pines is geographically situated in the city of San Diego, although it is one of the wildest stretches of land anywhere.
Cabrillo National Monument. Rising from the southern tip of the area known as Point Loma is Cabrillo National Monument, which marks the spot where the explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo came ashore after he discovered the area.
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. You’ll need a car to get to this beautiful place, but all travelers testify to the breathtaking views at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park are worth the extra effort.
Maritime Museum of San Diego. The Maritime Museum gives a hands-on look at San Diego’s days as a from the beginning to the present as a bustling seaport. You can tour all types of historic vessels.
